Brookes Westshore makes a splash in the waterfront community of Colwood

December 1, 2016

Today, Brookes Education Group Chairman, Graham Brown, welcomed community leaders and partners to the official site to announce a new addition to the Westshore academic community. Brookes Westshore will open in 2018 as an International Baccalaureate World School and a sister school to the existing Brookes campus in Shawnigan Lake.

Dr. Brown explained his personal commitment to the project, “As a Westshore parent, it has been my dream to expand the academic options for students in our community.” Dr. Brown was joined at the event by co-founder Jerry Salvador, long-time faculty and administrator from Lester B. Pearson College, Colwood Mayor Carol Hamilton, David Fraser of the Bank of Montreal, and Kinetic President and CEO Tom Plumb, as well as other civic and community leaders.

Scheduled to open its doors for September 2018, Brookes Westshore will welcome 300 students, anticipating a mix of 150 local day students and 150 international and local boarding students. Centrally located on Sooke Road adjacent to the Royal Roads University entrance, the school and grounds are designed with a focus on creating a natural setting to enhance student learning.

Economic Impact: Kinetic Construction is the General Contractor on the project which represents approximately 1400 man-weeks of work. The school will also create 100 sustainable, local jobs in Greater Victoria and millions in economic activity for the Westshore.

In addition to the Shawnigan Lake campus, Brookes has three campuses around the world: Cambridge (UK), Seoul (Korea), and Silicon Valley (USA), with two more new schools also scheduled to open in 2018. The philosophy of the Brookes Education Group is to build self-confident, lifelong learners connected and inspired to help others. By connecting local and international students globally across campuses, students gain multiple perspectives, develop creativity and build character.

Andrea Spinner, Head of School at Brookes Shawnigan Lake said, ͞”This new Westshore school is an intentionally small school with big ideas. We want students to have local and global experiences. From learning how local farming is important to one’s community, to understanding the life experiences of students from other cultures. We know there are some amazing young people here in the Westshore and this school will provide a path to their future.”
